I read the other day that Roy Schneider had died. It got me to thinking about the chase scene in a movie he was in, and one thing led to another. So, in honor of Roy's memory, I posted this. How about you? What are your favorite movie car chases?
.) The Seven Ups. This is without a doubt one of the coolest I ever saw. It lasts 10 minutes, and goes from downtown Manhattan all the way out of town. The first time I saw it I was on the edge of my seat. It still grips me. Roy Schneider was the man in this one. The chase was created by Bill Hickman, the stunt driver who also created the chase scenes in The French Connection and Bullitt.
.) Ronin - This was a John Frankenheimer film, and there are several car chases in it. The one that really grips me is the one at the end through the streets of Paris where Diedra (Natascha McElhone) is supposed to be the driver. Personally I think they should have used Juno, but go figure...
.) Bullitt - It's not fancy, but I just love seein that Charger and Mustang hotfoot it down the highway. McQueen did most of the driving in this.
.) The Bourne Supremacy - How can you NOT dig this chase through Moscow?
.) Death Proof - Granted, the chase isn't all that hairy, but I just really dig it
