How is it we don't have a thread dedicated to the genius of Sweeny Todd??

This is an outrage.

Still haven't seen the movie.  I think it may be showing up soon in theaters down here in Mexico (takes extra time for U.S. movies to filter through the system).  Probably with subtitles.  The advertising posters say, "No Olvides.  No Perdones."  ^^

Johnny Depp + Tim Burton + Helena Bonham Carter = movies made of creepy/awesome.  How many have they done together now?  Like, a bunch...

I know Depp has done six with Burton - not sure if that includes this one or not.

It's an amazing film.  Been on my list to see a second time too - which is something I just never do.

I don't like musicals, but this one wasn't bad... I think the whole killing of the Judge wasn't good enough though. I wanted more violence! lol

I agree!  I did too.  I thought the pacing was a little faster than it should have been.  But I'm really looking forward to seeing it again. Cheesy

I was surprised at how much violence there was, and I felt the judge's death lacked the quality of the others killings, it seemed so, brutal, when all the others were so efficient.

I enjoyed the movie overall.  The actors all sung very well, and it helped that Depp and Rickman are two of my fav actors.  Cohen's role was good funny without being too outrightly stupid.  Yeah, I pretty well liked it, I don't know if I'll buy it when it comes out though, the movie was good, but I'm not real big on musicals.  I think my only complaint was that since it was a musical there were several scenes in the Todds barber shop that seemed too big.  The characters just looked tiny compared to all the empty space in the room.

RE: The Judges death..

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!

It was brutal, and that was I think 'cause he lost his first chance.. if he'd been able to get him first time, who knows how different things would have been?

Because he was denied the judge the first time, he ended up meeting the other bloke, then ended up having to look after the boy, then ended up doing the killings just for the sake of killing it seems.. at least that is the way the film portrays it..

SPOILER'S OVER

I do love the way Sweeny is played, I don't know what it is about the character, but I felt sympathy all the way through it, especially at the end..

I'm with you there too Miles and Destroyer - it was brutal and it certainly wasn't efficient.  I blame rage.  XD

Man, matrim!  That sucks.  I hope it comes out for you soon!

I think the barbershop being big was does on purpose - check out this trailer on Sweeny and the vision:

Update: I've seen the movie now, and it's all for the win. The sets and characters are all dark and gothic and very Burtonesque, which I love. The music didn't disturb too much (yet i must admit, it did, here and there, because it was slightly repetitive on the themes). Also it's a movie that's unashamed of it's adult theme of revenge and doesn't try to protect the viewer. Where corpses fall, necks break and skulls crack, so why hide it!? Well done.

[SPOILER]
What about the open ending? I liked it, and I like to believe the two young'uns got away. What about you people?
