Who is your favorite artist?
« on: April 07, 2007, 04:43:57 PM »

Can't remember if there was a thread on this before.  I don't think so.  So anyway, it being a cold day and all, I'm in the mood to groove on some art.

So who is your favorite artist?  I'm not just talking about technique.  More people than I can count have great technique but they don't really speak to me.

So the complete package - who does it for you?

Here's one of my favorites: Dan Seagrave

You can check out some of his stuff at the following links:

Hum...
I really love Damion Scott's art (http://www.anthonysnyder.com/ArtistGalleryRoom.asp?ArtistId=398&Details=0). He's done work on Robin and Batgirl, as well as SOLO #10.

Also love Oh!Great's art (Air Gear).  Grin

Yeah, her stuff is undeniably good.  But what's with all the splatter and feathers on every piece?  You ever notice that?

Cool.  Damion Scott has a very interesting style.  It's like a cartoon style combined with playing with this fisheye lens / perspective thing.  Very unique.

I'll have to check out the Air Gear manga - haven't seen it before.  But the few panels I found online sofar look pretty cool.

Yea, I think it's just something she's going through right now (and probably doesn't notice). One of the most recent ones with the black feathers on a watercolor type background and stuff I almost wanted to  die when I saw it--I couldn't believe she filled in the space with that instead of something else. I have no doubts though the second she gets out of high school and into college her style is probably gonna change a lot.

Air Gear doesn't have too much of a plot to speak of, but the art. Wow. The sheer amount of detail that goes into every panel, it really floors me. Grin(Don't bother watching the anime, though, it's decent but nothing remarkable)

Lots of them are good, but for pure inspiration:

Giger, of course:  http://www.hrgiger.com/
David Ho:  http://www.davidho.com/
Wayne Barlowe : http://www.waynebarlowe.com/

And then there is Ursula Vernon.  Not really inspirational so much as I just love her stuff:

Be warned:  If you are not familiar with Ursula's work, DON'T BE DRINKING ANYTHING WHILE LOOKING.

I love mostly the watercolor fantasy folken. Thats whats all up on my walls, anyway!

Artists like: Nene Thomas, Sara Butcher, Stephanie Law, Bev Doolittle are my "I want to be when I grow Ups". ^^

I really love a wide range of anime, but I dont tend to buy it or collect it other than over on DA in a favorites way haha!
